Happy Anniversary & Other Such Things

Today is my wedding anniversary!! First, I’ll say that it’s a day worth celebrating. Four years ago today, I pledged my everlasting love to my now hubby in front of God and many of our family members and friends. It was a beautiful day, both due it being one full of love and weather wise as well. Joyous definitely describes our wedding day.

Over the last four years since we said, I do, and even before then, we’ve faced a lot together. We’ve lost loved ones, faced financial issues, dealt with illnesses and injuries, and other things that have put strain on us. We’ve also laughed, enjoyed lots of time with friends and family, experienced great things, and created many amazing memories. Throughout the good and bad, here we are, still standing together. That’s what a team does, sticks together through it all.

So yes, for my hubby and I, today is definitely a day worth smiling about. It’s also my friend Ashley’s birthday. I remember telling her when the date was set that it fell on her birthday, wasn’t sure how she’d feel about it. She told me she was honored to share her special day with us. Yay! So today, I also say, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ASHLEY!!! I hope today is full of joy and love for you, dear friend!!

I’m sure today is special for others as well. Others are likely celebrating their wedding anniversaries and birthdays. I am willing to wager that it’s also a day for signing paperwork to get keys to their new home, starting/started a new job, made a big move, started dating, stopped smoking, and more. Today is a day for many to smile and I’m happy to share in this joy with all of you.

Today is also likely a day that’s hard for some. Some lost people they love, lost jobs, got into a life changing car accident, found out they’re ill, and other heartbreaking things. My heart weeps for those that hurt today. I know that while we celebrate today, others aren’t, that others have reason to be sad. Life goes on around us, through the good and bad we face, others do their own thing.

Today too, my son has court for some poor decisions he’s made. It is hard to watch my brilliant son throw his future to the wind. He’s starting to see he wants so much and he needs to make some changes, but he’s still being stubborn, fighting it some. I hope he gets a wake-up call and starts to really fight for his future. May today end up being the beginning to a brighter future for him.

No matter what today is for you, I hope you find some joy. Even if today is sad, it brings hard times, may you find at least one reason to smile. If not, if it’s just too hard today, maybe tomorrow? My thoughts and prayers are with the world today, all who struggle, mourn, and worry. It’s also with those who laugh, smile, and celebrate. Whatever today is, at least it is. We’ve been given another day and that is cause to celebrate.

Beauty Is All Around Us

Amidst all the ugly pain and destruction, there’s also beauty in this world. I like to get out there and capture that from time to time. I hope you like the pictures! See something beautiful, something that makes you smile today? Share it with me!? Let’s share some good with one another!

Oh the Places You’ll Go…

I grew up reading Dr. Seuss books. I grew up reading a lot in general really, but he was one of my favorite authors when I was a tyke.

His stories were fun with silly nonsensical words, made up creatures, and great adventures. I loved the Sneetches, with the stars on their bellies and The Cat in the Hat, who always made things interesting and sometimes smellies. Smellies? Sure, I needed something that rhymed with bellies and why not be a little silly along the way? Why yes, Sam I am, I do like green eggs and ham. I’d eat them with you here, there, and everywhere!

My sixteen year old son and I had a tradition that involved us honoring the great author by reading his books on his birthday and sometimes the days leading up to it. We’d read oh so very many, perhaps five, 12, or even twenty. Why, I’m sure that’s plenty!

I have a daughter who is almost three and she loves books. I’m ever so proud to have two children who love to get lost in their pages! So now, with it being March 2nd, the birthday of one fabulously creative man, I continue this tradition.

What about you? Will you read a tale today, maybe two? There’s plenty to choose from! There’s books about apples on top! What about fish that are read and blue? The choice is yours, so totally up to you!! Just make sure to smile, enjoy, and share that joy of reading, whatever you do!!

Sharing a Nectarine

Two girls sharing a nectarine
One so very young
The other not so much
Singing songs of the summer
Dreaming of picnics and swings

As the snow falls outside so steadily
The girls play the day away inside
Singing EIO, EIO and giggling
Making noises and nonsense
Just two girls so silly and as close as can be

A color collage adorns notebooks and walls
The so very young girl proud of her art
The not so young girl sighs and then smiles
“What a beautiful rainbow you’ve made, love.”
These days will fly by with the winter moon

The seasons will come and go, as they’ve always done
The very little girl will become not so little
And the not so young girl will grow older still
We may as well make the most of the colorful days
Let us sing songs about little spiders and twinkling stars today

Tomorrow, maybe the very little girl will have new dreams
While these days aren’t always so easy
With the tantrums and hearing her yell no
There’s also so much joy in chocolate covered kisses
And in the bedtime stories and goodnight hugs

Two girls sharing a nectarine
One so very young
The other one not so much
Singing songs of the summer
Still dreaming of picnics and swings

2018 in review

How is it that there are 10 days left of 2018? This year, as nearly every year since becoming an adult, has flown by. I am reflecting upon the past 355 days, as I tend to do every year around this time. What a year it has been.

January – My grandma and one of the dearest people in my life passed away. Business was slow.

February – Business picked up some. Court ordered a G.A.L. be appointed.

March – I did my first wedding of the year, along with several other sessions. I was prepping for my daughter’s second birthday party. I met with the G.A.L.

April – My daughter turned two! It was fun celebrating her birthday! I did my second wedding, got it last minute, on my husband’s 30th birthday. He had a fun celebration with friends and family.

May – My mom turned 60! Business kept coming. I photographed my first 50th Anniversary party. My hubby & I celebrated our third wedding anniversary. Three years in!

June – Business was fairly busy, with three weddings, a family session, etc. We wanted to get a camping trip in and then never got the chance. I had to take my son to summer school that was over an hour away every day he was with me and it made for long days.

July – I had to get my son to summer school some yet. He nearly failed the one class, but I got him to turn things around. I worked with his teacher to figure things out and got him to study. I had two more weddings. Court for placement wasn’t fun. I asked for an appeal. I did a couple weddings.

August – I did a wedding and a lot of sessions. We made time to go to the parks and swim over the summer. Too bad we didn’t make it camping though.

September – I think this was my busiest month for business. I did three weddings, a Quinceanera, a Sweet 16th, senior pictures, etc. My son started sophomore year. Hubby drove a lot of Uber hours. Life was so busy.

October – We celebrated six years together as a couple. It was a busy month for business too, two weddings, four senior picture sessions, etc. I got to go to Florida and ride on a plane for the first time ever, witnessed my cousin’s wedding. It was an incredible experience!!!! We took the kids trick or treating. I finally got to see the otter exhibit at the zoo. It was prep time for my son’s 16th birthday party.

November – My son turned 16!!!! He had a lot of family and friends come by. It was crowded in our house. 😉 He had a great time! Business was still fairly busy, but wedding season was finally over, except for the editing part. The appeal for court went fairly well. I get placement over the summer and should all go well then, there’s a good chance I get to keep it into the school year. I am PSYCHED! We have been fighting for this for years! Here’s hoping!!!

December – I turned 40 a few days ago. I have had quite the month so far! My hubby took me to see Lindsey Stirling and while away, I also got a spa package at the amazing hotel he booked a room at. It was a wonderful time all around!!! I got to see my friends this past weekend and that was fun. I got to sing karaoke! I started bowling every other week with friends. I did Santa mini sessions in my studio, for year number three. I wish I had booked more. I am finally making a dent in my editing.

There have been some struggles throughout the year, largely financial, but we keep plugging away. God helps us keep going. The kids are healthy, we all have one another, a roof over our heads, plenty to eat, clothes to wear, etc. We are also surrounded by family and friends. As stressed as we have been, honestly, things could be a lot worse. I think we are actually fairly blessed. 2018 hasn’t been great money wise and we have lost people we love, but it hasn’t been a BAD year. A lot of great things happened. I am looking forward to seeing where 2019 takes us though!!! 2019, here we come!!!!

All or Nothing

purple-butterfly

The screen goes black

How did it come to this?

When exactly did we get off track?

No more living in a state of ignorant bliss

Eyes wide open, senses on full alert

Wishing to dull the feelings within

To find a way to quiet all of the hurt

But it’s team floodgates for the win

One can’t pick and choose which emotions to feel

Wouldn’t it be grand to be able to feel only some things?

And to decide how quickly we can heal?

Why must it be for me all or nothing?

I’d like to quiet the anger, unrest, fear, & sorrow

Let only the joy, hopefulness, and love reign

What a happy place my mind would be on the morrow

If I could just let the ill feelings an illness feign

But that is not how it is meant to be for us

Every tear and laugh help our hearts be free

For though we may wish our minds never to fuss

I fear then that the beauty too would cease to be
