Celebrate Life Now

Celebrate Life

I was listening to K-Love yesterday and a listener called in and told them about how they celebrated the life of someone they love BEFORE they died. The lady that called in talked to us about her mother who had terminal cancer and knew she didn’t have long. She’d heard the idea on K-Love and decided it was something that she wanted to do for her mother. So, she planned out the event to take place on her mother’s birthday. She wasn’t sure how it would turn out, but she knew it was something she wanted to do, no matter how many people showed up. They expected maybe 15 people to show up, but 65 people attended and it was such an amazing and positive experience for everyone. Her mother was able to be surrounded by people who loved her, who celebrated her life and all she’d done. Since then, her mother did pass away and I can imagine it’s been hard for her and her family. But, she said that doing this for her mother is something she’s so glad she did. Her mother got to know just how important she was, how much she was loved while she was still here.

I really liked hearing that story, moved me quite a bit. I know there are many times when doing something like this isn’t possible, but then, who says we should wait till someone we love is dying to celebrate their life? I try throughout my life to show those I love how much I appreciate, respect, and love them. Though, when someone we know is dying, I think it especially a good idea to throw a celebration of their life. Why not give them something to remember in the days they have left that will touch their heart? Life is precious and all too fleeting. We should make the most of it and part of that is showing those we adore how much they mean to us, how important they are. I wanted to share this story and idea with all of you. Perhaps even one of you will be touched by this, perhaps even one of you will take something from it and then share your own story of celebration, life, and love with others so that your story will then inspire others to do the same. All it takes is one person and the willingness to share their story to ignite the flame.

250 + 1 ;)

Currently I have 251 subscribers to my blog, normally I try to catch this when it’s at an even number, but sometimes these things happen…..so anyway, I just wanted to say thank you to each and every one of you for supporting me and my blog. It means more to me than I can say. Thank you for letting me inspire you and thank you even more for inspiring me! Being a part of WordPress really has touched my life abundantly. You’re all awesome, just sayin’. 😉

It’s been a year already?

I joined WordPress a year ago, really? Time sure does fly! Thanks again to my friend Courtney who encouraged me to join. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this community! Thank you once again, guys and dolls, for reading my blog! Thank you for the support you have shown me and thank you for your wisdom, advice, new perspectives, friendship, and love…offered both on my blog and within reading yours as well!

A lot has changed in a year! Some bad things have happened, but through all of that, I have grown stronger as a person, as a Christian, as a friend, and so on. I have also learned who my real friends are and together, we have seen one another through the hard times. Many good things have happened as well and those things have served to keep me humble, optimistic even in the darkest of times, and reminding me of how very blessed I am.

A life devoid of the things that brings one joy isn’t truly living, it’s merely existing. Never deny oneself joy, happiness, or peace. Also never depend on another to give you those things. To have joy with others is a plus and an amazing thing, but one needs to have that within themselves first and always.

Life really is what one makes of it, the choice of what yours will become is up to you. Circumstances don’t define us, what we do, and how we get through them does. I choose to overcome the dark times, shine a light and make it through. I choose to hold my head up high and work for the good things in life, not just daydream about them. I refuse to let success make me arrogant. While I have earned things in life, I choose not flaunt them. I instead hope to encourage others and show them how to achieve their goals as well. I am so far from perfect, but I do the best with what I have, with who I am, and continue to work on becoming a better person than I was the day before. I hope my blog reflects even a glimmer of who I am and that it inspires even one of you, as what many of you have had to say continues to inspire me. Thank you for a great year and here’s to another amazing one ahead!

Sunshine Award

Miss Ionia nominated me for the Sunshine Award. She saw my most recent post and thought I could use some cheering up. She often tells me how my posts inspire her and make her smile. She is truly a gem, an amazing person with quite the gift herself. Check out her blog, especially if you like to read. She gives reviews, pretty good ones too.

I said I was taking a break from nominations, but I will make an exception this time as I need a positive distraction from my own mind this evening. So, here are the rules for accepting this award:

  • Include the award’s logo in a post or on your blog.
  • Answer 10 questions about yourself.
  • 10-12 other fabulous bloggers must be nominated.
  • Link your nominees to the post and comment on their blogs, letting them know they have been nominated.
  • Share the love and link the person who nominated you.

Answer the questions:

1 – Favorite color: Depends on the day, usually green.

2 – Favorite animal: Horses and tigers, yes I have two. 😉

3 – Favorite number: 3, 7, & 11 (which is weird because I prefer even numbers in general.)

4 – Favorite non-alcoholic drink: Iced tea w/lemonade (Called an Arnold Palmer I believe.)

5 – Prefer Facebook or Twitter? Facebook

6 – My passion: I have more than one: God, my son, family, friends, music, & writing….oh and photography. 😉

7 – Prefer getting or giving presents: Both are great, honestly, but to give something to someone….even if it’s something handmade and to see them smile, to see their joy when they get it, well, it’s priceless.

8 – Favorite pattern: I don’t have one….

9 – Favorite day of the week: Saturday

10 – Favorite flower: Tiger Lilly

Nominees: They should be people who inspire and give joy and laughter when reading their posts. It is hard for me to pick each time, which is one of the reasons I backed off from accepting nominations. Well, this time around….the nominees are:

Bzebza: He always has such interesting posts! I love the photos, so breathtakingly beautiful! Hey, you…you reading this….check it out and take a gander at his short stories too!

Alex: Such a wonderful blog to read, such hope, uplifting words, and honesty can be read on his blog. Do check it out!

Wendell: His poems are beautiful, written with such emotion and love. Each one captivates me. If you’re a lover of God, poetry, and just love in general….check out his page!

Quillian & Angela: Most interesting blog, like what they have to share! I especially liked reading about the journey back to the states (which is where I am from) for a visit and their trip to see a Cardinals game, as I am too a baseball fan. The season is about to start! Go journey with them, see what they see and go where they go! 🙂

Felicia: This lady is outstanding! I love reading her blog. There are stories that make me cry, laugh, and get inspired. Something I read there today had me in tears, something so heartbreaking, but told in such a way that was beautiful. Check it and the rest of her blog out!

K.D: She posts such amazing and inspiring things. Need a little hope, a smile, some perspective? Check out her site, you’ll be glad you did, I know I am!

Bussokuseki: His writings offer up such warmth, peace, love, laughter, and hope. He wants the best for those in his family and around him. It’s definitely worth stopping by his page to read what he has to say.

Dianne: Her posts are so real! I love that she gives of herself when she writes.  Her stories, the lessons she tries to give, & the things she shares are amazing. Take a look and see what she’s creating.

Victoria: Her stories about her family, marriage, children, and every day adventures are quite something. Sometimes I leave her page with a laugh, sometimes a moment of: “I know how she feels!”, sometimes hope that things can get better, and much more depending on the post. She is real, honest, and down to earth. Check out her page! 🙂

The one and only Opinionated Man: He says what he’s thinking. I don’t always agree with his opinions, though often times I do. Even when we don’t, I respect him for putting himself out there, for being real, for being himself. Check out what he has to say, always an interesting read!

Alright, shine on nominees and to all reading this! No matter how dark it might get, there is always a light to be turned on, to be found. Be that light! 🙂

Meet Sally Fallacy and Janelle Justice

An idea has been put into my head by my 10 year old son. He has a problem with lying sometimes and this evening, he wanted my boyfriend and I to tell him a story. But before the idea for my story came to brew, my son had said something that wasn’t true. Doug’s response to Zach was, “False.” I said, “Fallacy.” I then said if I decided to write a story that I could name the main character Sally Fallacy, she would have a problem with lying. Janelle Justice would come along, become her friend, and show her the error of her ways. I already have my first story line, will get to it when I have time. I think starting a children’s series could be fun….
