In honor of mothers and mother figures….

This is my mom, it was taken in May of 1994. My mom doesn’t like taking pictures, but she knew how much it would mean to me to do this, so she set it up for a Mother/Daughter event for us. 🙂 Isn’t she beautiful? I LOVE this picture of her!

I know Mother’s Day is Sunday, but I won’t be on here, my day will be too eventful. I am cooking for my mom, grandma, uncle, and son. It’s a dish that my mom and grandma like, even have their favorite pies chilling in the freezer till it’s time for them to thaw. 😉 At some point, I will also be with Doug, supporting him and his family as it will be a hard day dealing with the loss of his mom. It’s going to be an eventful day, so I wanted to write today while I have some time before my weekend gets busy, which it’s going to in the next hour or so. 😉

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you moms out there! I hope it is an amazing day! It is nice to have a day that honors all the hard work done, sacrifices made, and love given. I also want to do a shout out for the dads who are playing both roles! You don’t get nearly enough recognition and I just wanted to take a moment to do just that! Much love also goes out to the step-moms, aunts, grandmas, foster moms, and so on who raise other’s kids as their own. This day (well Sunday, May 12th) is for you, all of you!

So, yeah, I honor my own mother this day. We haven’t had an easy journey together, but we have made it, still standing. 😉 I know deep down she has done her best and that she loves me with all she has. I love her, so much. Thank you, Mom, for so much, especially over the last couple of years! Thank you!!! I also want to give my personal shout outs to my step-mom, Cindy…..

This is her with my son when he was oh so little. 🙂 So, this was taken in late 2002. She has accepted me as part of the family, even though I am not one of her children. I met her and my dad when I was 10. My parents split when my mom was still pregnant with me. He did propose after I was born, but my mom had already moved on. Peace has been found between my parents, so while it’s not an ideal situation, it’s really not so bad. I just have another parent to love that loves me. Cindy is an amazing mom to her three kids, a great step-mom to me, a good wife to my dad, and a wonderful grandma to all of her grandchildren. Thank you, Cindy for all you do!

And next to my grandma…..

She has been an amazing support to me throughout my adult life. I can’t begin to say how very grateful I am to her for all she has done for me. She has been a grandma, a mom, and a friend to me during my life. I seriously don’t know what I’d have done without her. So many times I was lost, felt stuck, was drowning in my mistakes, and there she’s been to pick me up each time. I love her more than I could ever say. Thank you, Grandma! Thank you, I will be forever indebted to you. (picture was taken a very long time ago, not even sure if I was alive or not lol, but I just love this one of her.)

And the reason I am honored this day, I would love to share with you also….

This is my son and I, last summer. He’s shown me the true meaning of unconditional love. To love one person for their entire life, no matter what they do or say, no matter how mad you get at them….you don’t give up, you don’t walk away. He has saved me, in ways he doesn’t even realize. I love him, so much! I know I am not the perfect parent….so much to learn, still need to grow a lot, but we all have that to deal with….even after our kids are grown. He is my joy, my light, the greatest gift from God given to me. I love my kiddo!

For those who don’t have their mom around anymore, my heart goes out to you. I pray that you have a good day somehow….remembering the good times with her, knowing perhaps that she is proud of you today. I know this day will be rough for my boyfriend’s family, as it’s their first Mother’s Day without her. I hope to be of support to them, hoping they can find ways to smile, to think of her as she was, laughing about funny memories, and just honor her for the wonderful mother she was. I hope my cousins who still struggle with the loss of their mother can do the same. My heart is with all of you who miss your moms….

But for those of you who still have yours around, do let her know how special you think she is, how loved she is by you. I know some aren’t even close at all to their moms, been there before with my own…so, if it’s not your mom…choose someone who was/has been your rock, your support to honor. Honor someone who has been there for you and shown you the love and care you need.

Again….Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms and mother figures out there, hope it is a day full of love!

It’s Award Time….AGAIN!!!!

With all of these nominations, I am really starting to get emotional here. Thank you all for the award nominations, you guys and gals ROCK! This particular nomination is for the Liebster Award and the nomination comes from http://meganhasocd.com/author/mlmessme/ and you really need to stop by her blog. She is an amazing person with a lot to offer us readers. Thank you, lovely lady, thank you!!!

Here are the ever-daunting Liebster Blog Award Rules:

1. Each person must post 11 things about themselves.
2. Answer the questions that the tagger has set for you plus create 11 questions for the people you’ve tagged to answer.
3. Choose 11 people and link them in your post.
4. Go to their page and tell them.
5. No tag backs!

First, 11 facts about myself:

1. I want to travel to each country my family members came from and more besides, but especially those so that I can see where we came from. Those countries are: Germany, France, England, Ireland, and what was once Bohemia and I now believe is the Czech Republic. I am also Native American, so well, I am already here. 😉

2. I want to see all 50 states before I die. So far, I have visited and driven through 21 states. Though Arizona I just drove through and have yet to put my feet on the ground there.

3. I am a nut fanatic. I like cashews, pistachios, almonds, peanuts, etc. I love to just sit and munch on them. I do not really care for walnuts or pecans and I do not care for my nuts to be baked into anything, just as they are.

4. I love tigers, I feel they are beautiful animals.

5. I love horses, they are majestic. They are peaceful and easy for me to talk to. I truly feel they understand.

6. I am a Harry Potter nerd.

7. I am also a Twilight geek, but I do think that vampires should NOT sparkle.

8. I do not like horror movies, period.

9. I feel that comedy is great medicine for a frustrated soul.

10. I am not a fan of cold weather and that is ironic since I was born and raised right here in Wisconsin.

11. I like Tinkerbell.

Here are a few things, 11 to be exact, about myself based on the questions asked by http://lovinchelle.wordpress.com, but since http://meganhasocd.com/author/mlmessme didn’t ask questions, I decided to answer the ones she was given:

1. Favorite thing to do?

Writing, singing, photography, spending time with my son, cuddling and talking with my boyfriend, & bowling.

2. Ideal job

I would love to be a professional writer.  I enjoy doing it as a hobby, but going professional would be extremely rewarding to me. (agreed, Megan!) Realistically at this point, I would like to be an Administrative Assistant because I have been one before and I am good at it. I like to file, fax, make copies, type letters, edit records in a database, balance invoices, enter credit card payments, deal with the mail, etc etc. I like that sort of stuff and that is my geek side coming out. 😉

3. Whats one thing you wear that probably needs to be thrown away?

I have a few old shirts that could be tossed.

4. Do you work well with others?

Often times, yes. I view myself as a team player, but there are times when I wish to be left to myself to do my tasks.

5. Whats your mental age?(kid at heart?)

It depends on the moment, it really does vary from time to time. Sometimes I feel very youthful and sometimes it seems as if my soul is old. Currently, I don’t really feel too old or too young, just feel somewhere in the middle. A lot of life is gone, done and then, I feel as if I still have a lot left too.

6. Have you ever worked in a restaurant ?

Yes, let’s not go there……………………………

7. What do you like to eat?

Chicken, pork, beef, venison, many pastas, lots of veggies, lots of fruit, CHEESE, etc etc. I do NOT like spicy food, not too much in the way of seafood except shrimp and tuna, and really hate: liver, onions, asparagus, cooked spinach, radishes, beets, turnips, most squash, blueberries, and more but too tired to think lol

8. Do you prefer outdoors or in?

During the winter months and bad weather, indoors. If it’s a beautiful day, outside and in Wisconsin, they seem to be few and far between, so I appreciate them when we get them.

9. Could you survive without internet or cell phone?

I admit, it would be very difficult for me as those are two ways in which I keep connected with the outside world.

10. What time is it?

Currently, it is 8:11 in the morning, central standard time.

11. Did you groan or smile when you read the rules for this award?

As always, smiled with gratitude and humility.

There was a time long ago

Or maybe not so long ago at all

When I couldn’t feel Your presence

Though You were right there with me

Upon a tornardo, I spun

Wreckless, I tore through town

Doing as I pleased

Never fully facing the consequences

Giving into peer pressure

Partying it up

Staying up late

Hey let me take another hit

The lines between my realities blurred

A yearning for something better stirred

But getting the nerve to change

Can be very difficult to say the least

Beneath the fear and uncertainty

Desire for a good life beat within my chest

I always told myself

Someday I would find a way

Many mistakes were made

I tried to lie, cheat, and steal my way through life

Always trying to excuse what I did

By blaming those who I felt had ruined me

It was never my fault you see

The blame shifted from person to person

My parents, kids at school, and so on

I’d have turned out okay if it wasn’t for them

Beneath the self pity and self loathing

Desire for forgiveness and love flowed within my veins

One day I will stop making excuses

And learn how to really live

Beneath the wreckage

A beautiful soul begins to emerge

Over time, healing began

Slow, but it’s been forward progress

You never gave up on me

Even when others did

Even when I gave up on myself

Loving me through it all

I’d run from You

Ashamed of all I have done

Angry at the world for what had been done to me

So sure I could do things my way

Each time I ran

You patiently waited

For me to come back home

Drawing me close when I came through the door

I yearn to live a life of significance

One that gives love to all around me

To make a life worth living

One that will be worth remembering

Beneath a sinner’s heart

The will and the courage to do the right thing grew

Thank you for wiping away my sins

For seeing in me what I simply couldn’t see
