Maybe

CollageMaker_20190317_130700126.jpg

When the life of someone you love slips away, your first reaction may be to shut down. Maybe you cry your eyes out. Maybe you feel hopeless and helpless. Maybe you hold your child extra tight. Maybe you say extra prayers. Maybe you wonder why. Maybe you try to be grateful for a life that is still yours. Maybe the emotional part of your brain aches in ways you can’t explain. Maybe you wish things were different. Maybe you feel guilty for still being here. Maybe a part of you is thankful for all you have. Maybe you are confused. Maybe you are torn. Maybe you are just trying to find a way to push forward. There is just so much loss, heartache, and pain. But, we have to keep going while it’s our time to be and maybe we need to find ways to help others do the same. Maybe. Maybe.

Rest in peace, my dear friend, Latasha Greer. You will live on through your girls, your husband, and all else who love you. You changed our lives and touched our hearts. For that, you’ll never be forgotten.

A New Venture

20160716_145158

I have been passionate about photography since I was given my first camera, which was my mom’s old 35mm. For quite some time now, I have been thinking about having a photography business of my own. Capturing lifelong memories is an incredible thing, in my mind. Over time, our memories fade and pictures are one way to revisit and renew them for us.

Well, I finally decided to go for it. I created a Facebook business page for my work, been putting the word out to family and friends on there, and now I am reaching out to my WordPress family! Help me spread the word and get my business going! I want to capture precious moments for as many people as I can.

My mission statement, if you will, is to create lifelong memories and to do it with honor, integrity, and love. I want my heart to show in every picture I take and for everyone who has my work on their walls and in their photo albums to know that they’re more than just clients. Each person I work with will be treated with respect and compassion.

My goal is to be a great photographer, always learning and to be a good mom at the same time. I have a four and a half month old daughter that is my light. I didn’t spend nearly enough time with my son when he was small and I regret that. I want to make sure she has that time and energy. I feel this is a job I can work around my husband’s work schedule most times and also be able to take her with me when I can’t. I want her early years to be full of memories of time spent with me, learning and growing. I also want to do something that will help add income to our household at the same time and feel good about myself and the work I do at the same time.

Thank you in advance for your never ending support. You, my amazing friends and family, inspire me daily to do and become more. Every step forward is partially in thanks to each of you.

Now, go out and make the most of today! Capture each precious moment!

Until We Meet Again, My Friend

its-not-goodbye-its-see-you-later-1080x691

I feel like I’m walking in a daydream

Like I’m in a world that isn’t real

How can it be real without you?

You’ve been a part of my life for so long

For longer than you weren’t in it

We were once inseparable, bound by invisible ties

Always together, always on an adventure

You brought out a fire in me I’d been afraid to light

Pushing me to believe in myself

You didn’t like it when people put themselves down

I could listen to you sing for hours

It was easy to get lost in the sounds of your voice

It was always more than just a song to you

Your soul was heard in every note you sang

It was if the songs had been written just for you

The sound of your laughter could brighten even my darkest days

The vision of your smile brings joy to my heart even now

I want to hold onto that, to picture you happy and healthy

And to let that smile keep me pushing forward

To do all I can to honor you and the life you lived

I don’t want to say goodbye, so I won’t

Instead I will say, “See you later.”

Dear friend, I feel confident that we will meet again

In a place where all will be well for us all

Death will not tear us apart

I do miss you greatly, I can’t pretend I don’t hurt

I have cried and will continue to cry for you

But, I will also live the remainder of my life to its fullest

That’s what I’d want you to do for me

I promise to always keep you in my thoughts and in my heart

Called to Love

Image

On this day, we celebrate the wonderful thing called love

To start, I want to thank the good Lord above

For all the adoration & compassion He gives each day

And for how He blesses me each day more than I can say

This day isn’t just for lovers, but for all who are bonded together

For those who don’t just share in the joy, but who stand side by side in all kinds of weather

A day to celebrate love, commitment, friendship, & joy is such a blessed thing

Though it should be done throughout the year, to remember the blessings each day brings

We are all called to love each & every single day of our lives

From our friends & neighbors to our husbands & wives

Go out & celebrate the love you feel in your hearts today

But don’t forget to do that every single day in your own special way

Merry Christmas, Soldiers!

Image

I didn’t notice there was a deadline until now, but if you act now….perhaps you can get out your card in time! But fret not, even if you can’t….there are multiple groups that send soldiers cards and letters throughout the year, as well as put together care packages and other such acts of kindness. One is called Soldiers’ Angels, if you want to get involved, look them up! So many men and women can’t be with their families during a time when they want to be the most, over the holidays. So, let us brighten their days by letting them know we are thankful for what they do and honor their courage and sacrifice. Because of their sacrifices, we’re able to be with our families and I want them to know how much I appreciate that!

What Are You Thankful For Today?

On Facebook, I have been saying something I am thankful for each day for the entire month of November. It’s actually something I think we should do all year. I was thinking about how when a holiday rolls around, many get into the spirit, but then when it’s over, it’s back to “normal”. I wish “normal” was being thankful every single day, being in the giving spirit, wanting to help our fellow man (or woman teehee). Thanksgiving is upon us and so right now I see a lot of people focusing on that and some on Christmas too, though sadly it’s mostly on the food to buy and prepare, decorations, gifts, and so forth. Though there are also a number of people focused on the heart of those days as well. I am delighted to see a few other friends doing the same thing I am on Facebook. Sad thing is, Thanksgiving will end and the posts will stop, but why should they? Shouldn’t we find things to be thankful for everyday? Perhaps we don’t need to post about them, but at least perhaps take a moment to ourselves and say thank you for something. A thankful heart is a happier one, I think.

Religious or not, Christmas too becomes a stressful time for many because people are so consumed with having enough money to buy presents, figuring out what to get and for whom, having the house decorated, do we have the time off work requested, traveling worries, is our house ready for guests, and so on. I am of the Christian faith, so Christmas to me is largely about Christ. However, I don’t see a problem spending that time with loved ones and celebrating our love for one another as well. I think Christ compels us to do just that, that is how I honor my God. But, sometimes even I get so caught up in “what needs to be done” and lose sight of what I am really celebrating. It happens to a lot of us, sadly.

It is all too easy on Easter to get stressed about buying presents for the kids, figuring out good hiding spots, meal preparations, and so on. Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Veteran’s Day….we try to honor our country and those who have defended it….but when those days are over, again, back to “normal”. I don’t like what “normal” seems to be for our country as a whole. Individually, I can not and will not speak as to how people go about their lives. I am sure there are some very humble people who give thanks often for what they have and to those who have given them what they have. But, when I think about 9/11/2001 and how our country really came together…but then later when things had quieted down, our country went back to the way it was, I am saddened. Why does it take a national tragedy or a major holiday to trigger togetherness? Reflect on that for a moment.

Then there are days like Valentine’s Day, Sweetest Day, and the like that have people in a frenzy. We feel obligated to buy things for our loved ones and I don’t like that. What happened to showing our love for one another throughout the year? Sometimes we can be so compassionate, warm hearted, and really treat one another with respect and love. But then, there are times when we’re so selfish, cruel, and insensitive. *shakes head* I know I fall into all of the groups I complain about from time to time and that’s what’s harder for me to personally deal with. I resolve to be kinder and more often, not just when the calendar orders me to do so. I resolve to be more thankful and not take the people in my life for granted. I resolve to honor my country, my God, and my loved ones as often as possible. While I have time yet, I resolve to waste as little of it as possible. That is my wish for all I love, that you all will do the same. Let’s start right now. 🙂 I am indeed thankful for so much in my life, like for instance…all of you who read my blog and support my writing and support me as a friend. What are you thankful for today?

Silent Nightmare

Veterans Day

Barely a man

Overseas he travels

So very far from home

To a fight for our country

He doesn’t understand why

He just knows our country needs him

So he prepares to give all he has

To defend the land he loves

He faced things he never dreamed of

But now it’s all he can do to escape the nightmares

When he came home

There wasn’t anyone to help him through

He locked the memories deep within

Though he’s never really forgotten

Alcohol became his dearest friend

Silently he wept for years

No one understands what he went through

That’s how he feels

He refuses to open up

Even to others who faced the harsh foreign lands

His sacrifices lay quietly within his mind

But those who love him can see them in his eyes

And though we have promised never to pry

Sometimes we wish he’d find someone to open up to

I can’t imagine what he’s seen

Nor what he had to do

He’s been way braver than I could ever be

I just wish I could tell him how proud I am of him

For my father who fought in Vietnam and for all veterans….thank you for all you have done and for all you continue to do. Your courage, honor, love for our country, and sacrifices, both mental and physical mean so much to so many of us. Thank you!!!!

Brangien Illuminated

I am Brangien [Brangaine] of Weisefort, Ireland, lady-in-waiting to my cousin Isolde, who became promised to King Marc of Cornwall. His nephew Tristan escorted us to England by ship. But Tristan and Isolde fell in love at sea. As ye may know, or will find out, they cite the philter they drank as the cause, over which I was supposed to keep vigil. I would like to share my perspective of how I have created good in the world through my herbs and observations. There is much to tell, including how I have adopted this odd language. In good time. My life is in God’s hands. –Inspired by the modern French translations of the Tristan and Isolde texts
