Love is Stronger than Hate

Love-Heals

Hate is powerful and it destroys all it touches, causes great devastation in its wake. Hate fuels a mind to do awful things and sometimes it seems like there isn’t a weapon strong enough to stand up against it, so we lose hope.

Yet there is something that is more powerful that can be wielded against it, something that can triumph. Love is a force that can overcome hate’s strongest arsenal, against its every attack. Love is what hate fears most. If we, one person at a time, seek within ourselves that strength, we can stand up to hate.

It’s natural when provoked to get defensive, lash out with harsh words and hurtful actions. That’s what hate is counting on, for us to let anger, jealousy, greed, spiteful behavior, and the temptation to succumb to the dark parts within us to win.

It takes true strength to resist the dark sides within us, to find the good and let it prevail. When we know love, both how to give and receive it, it’s easier to listen to the goodness we have in our hearts. Sometimes it’s hard when we’ve been hurt to trust in love’s existence and in its power to heal. It’s easier sometimes to build walls and keep it out, to try to prevent it from hurting us again. What we don’t always see is that it’s not love that hurts us, it’s the absence of it that does.

It took me awhile to see just how strong and wonderful love really is, but now I know its power and refuse to turn from it ever again.

I’m grateful for love. I’m blessed with knowing many forms of it. I have God’s love with me everywhere I go, a love that overcomes everything. I have the love of two wonderful kids, a love that lights up the darkest days and shows me what it’s like to love another without reservation, a love that will last as long as I live. I have the love of an amazing husband, the kind of love one reads about, but isn’t sure really exists. He’s my best friend and partner. I have the love of family, a bond both bound by blood and something more special. I have the love of incredible friends, a love not bound by blood, but something just as strong. What’s even greater still is that I have the love to give back, love that inspires and fuels me daily. To be able to give and receive love is the biggest blessing I have been given.

Let love fuel you, heal your wounded heart, help you let go of anger, and inspire you to show it to others, so it may help them as well. Show a little love today!

We’re quick to post memes bashing on one another

If they don’t agree with me, they’re wrong

And you know I have to point it out for all to see

We say we hate drama, but just how much of it do we put online?

Did we forget we’re the adults and should know better?

Sometimes it feels like we’re still on the playground

Picking on those we deem lesser than we are

And then we wonder why there’s so much hatred & violence

We want peace, love, and harmony to prevail

But how often do we prove it by how we treat one another?

I’d love to see all hate, ignorance, and intolerance die for just one day

Is it possible to go even one day without seeing venom drip down my screen?

No one is perfect, but we reveal just how much that’s true

When we point out one another’s flaws and try to hide our own

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to stop playing war now.

Taking A Stand Against Hate

543572_10151026235186323_634218308_n

This morning on my way to work, I began thinking about the poem I wrote and shared yesterday. It isn’t just religion that divides us. It saddens me that we discriminate, judge, and treat others harshly at all. At the end of the day, we’re all human. Should it really matter what color we are, whether we’re male or female, whether we’re young or old, what side of town we’re from, what country we’re from, what religion (if any) we choose to follow, how much money we make, what our sexual orientation is, who we voted for, what we wear, and so on? It’s sad that people have to worry about colors they wear because gang members might hurt you or even kill you over it because they think you’re from an “enemy clan”. Just because a kid wants to pray, they might get beaten up. In some countries, you get killed for what you believe, for wanting an education, or for even wanting to do things differently than they want you to.

I was always taught to believe that I am not any better than another person. No one is perfect and no one has the right to judge another and religion had nothing to do with those beliefs. My mom isn’t religious at all, but she still taught me to be respectful and kind. The sad thing is people take judgment into their own hands, some even claim it’s in the name of their higher power that they do what they do, that they were called to smite others. I have far from given up on the human race, for I know there is still much good in us. It’s just disheartening to think about how much evil there is in us as well. I wish this world was much kinder than it is. We don’t have to agree with one another or even say that we’re “cool” with how people live, but we certainly do not need to kill one another over our differences. We also do not need to bully one another over it either. We’re all entitled to have our own opinions and if you wish to speak them, do so, but then it would be wonderful if people could leave it at that.

I am not a fool and don’t believe just by wishing it so that it will become that way, but I can wish for it anyway. I can also do my part by doing what it is I want to see from others. I don’t agree with a lot of things and I will tell people how I feel, but I will still extend my hand in friendship and offer compassion. We will never win over the world with war and violence, those who think so are sorely mistaken. I will continue to live my life helping others when I can, being kind, and loving with all I have. I know I am only one person, but they say one person can change the world. Luckily too, I know I am not the only one who feels the way I do. Let’s continue to break the barriers of hate down, not by judging, sitting on our pedestals…no, that only causes more hate. No one is holier than thou and it’s time to stop acting as such. (that is why many boycott religion by the way, because they’re chased away by judgmental behavior.) Stand on level ground with others and watch what the power of kindness and love can do. 🙂

In Faith Divided, But In Love United

dphclub.com_1202975467st-valentine_4

Inspired by a post I read on Renard’s blog, this poem came to me….

My heart tells me this

That God truly exists

His love is real, powerful, & everlasting

Because of what He’s done, I shall not feel death’s sting

But there’s something I must confess

Understand this, it doesn’t make me love Him less

God wasn’t fabricated

But religion itself was indeed created

People claim their higher power is the one

The one we should all follow when all is said and done

And then the name calling begins

When we can’t agree on who’s religion “wins”

How I wish we could co-exist

I think the whole point of religion has been missed

We don’t have to agree with one another to get along

Fighting & letting hate win in the name of religion seems so wrong

There are many that I love who don’t share in my beliefs

But we choose not to cause one another grief

We may not all agree that there is a God up above

But we’re still bound by blood and by love

This is my wish for the entire human race

That we learn to give one another more mercy & grace

The way things are now brings sadness to my heart

Because hate tears this world apart

But I refuse to give up hope

For the language of love is still alive, so I will not mope

I will continue to offer peace to those I meet

And hate shall know defeat

A Fragile Soul

effortlessness

A fragile soul struggles
Giving all it has to survive
To not be torn apart
As hate spreads across the globe
It prays to never lose its ability to love

Such suffering is seen everywhere it looks
Rape, greed, murder, war, violence, pain, death
So many people knock others down
Having no regard for other’s feelings
Meeting their own needs is all that matters

How can one not be skeptical
Not become jaded and hide their heart away?
It’s a struggle every single day
Listening to the news
Hearing about more and more tragedies

But the soul still pursues the light
Pulling back the curtains of despair
It sees healing, helping, joy, hope, compassion, love
There are many people who care for others
Who seek peace, who practice what they preach

As the soul has aged
It’s found it’s not as fragile as it once thought
Through the darkness, it’s found light
Found its strength through weakness
And despite the hate it sees, its also known friendship and love

Brangien Illuminated

I am Brangien [Brangaine] of Weisefort, Ireland, lady-in-waiting to my cousin Isolde, who became promised to King Marc of Cornwall. His nephew Tristan escorted us to England by ship. But Tristan and Isolde fell in love at sea. As ye may know, or will find out, they cite the philter they drank as the cause, over which I was supposed to keep vigil. I would like to share my perspective of how I have created good in the world through my herbs and observations. There is much to tell, including how I have adopted this odd language. In good time. My life is in God’s hands. –Inspired by the modern French translations of the Tristan and Isolde texts
