We’re Americans First

I'm An American

The election is over. We have our 45th president and his name is Donald Trump. I will start out by saying, I didn’t vote for him and nor did I vote for Hillary Clinton. (I voted Independent for the presidential candidate.) Not that I generally make it known who I vote for in any election, but I wanted to make it clear here that while I didn’t vote for Trump, I have accepted the election results. I think it is time the rest of the country follow suit.

I am seeing horrible things on the news, in the papers, and on social media in response to the election. Many of the people rioting, participating in violent acts in protest, bashing anyone who voted for Trump, and so on are also those who claim they want to see positive changes in this country. Those changes start with us. If we want to see America become great again, then we need to begin by doing some personal reflection and make the changes within ourselves.

Spreading hate is not helping, it is only making things worse. What are we teaching our children? It is okay to be unhappy with the results if you truly feel that Trump isn’t the man who should be running our country, but it is not okay to protest in such ways that elicits violence and cruelty towards others. The best thing any of us can do is accept the results, make the best of it, and be the changes we want to see in America. Bashing one another and rioting will not change the outcome, it will not suddenly make Hillary our president. How many people heard Hillary’s concession speech? How many people heard what Obama had to say? Neither of them are happy about the election results, but they are behaving like mature adults, at least on camera. 😉

We don’t have to like the results, but reacting in the ways that many have been doing is only fueling the hatred that’s already too powerful. Kids are being bullied at school over this, friendships are dissolving, families are at war with one another, and this country is divided by yet another thing. It is really sad. Just because someone voted for Trump or Clinton doesn’t mean they embody what we don’t like about the candidates. The people we love are still the same people. They didn’t suddenly change and become racist, immoral, or indecent. Remember who we are at the core and don’t let this change how we view one another. Now is the time to come together, not grow further apart. We already have enough issues, sure don’t need to add more.

I would also like to point out something else. Many have been focusing on solely the presidential candidates and have forgotten about their local governments, which controls much of what goes on in our day to day lives, what happens in our communities. We should not neglect our duty to support our local governments. Do the research, learn what our local politicians truly stand for, and vote. These elections happen more often than every four years too, know what’s going on in your communities and be a voice for hope and positive change. Our aldermen, sheriffs, judges, mayors, etc are elected by us too, shouldn’t we know who sits in those positions of authority and power?

We are a country that is all too often divided. Republicans v.s. Democrats, Packers fans v.s. Bears fans, white v.s. black, rich v.s. poor, Christians v.s. just about any other religion, gays v.s. straight, and so on. I would like to point something out, we’re Americans first. I heard the speech President Obama gave yesterday and agreed with many key points. I was never a huge fan of his, but I have to give credit for how he has handled the election results. His speech really got to me. I would credit it as one of the greatest accomplishments of his presidency. It may sound silly, but honestly, his reaction to Trump being elected says something about him. How you transition from your position of power says a lot about one’s character. I think that phrase he uttered was what hit me the most. It is something we all need to remember. No matter where we’re from, what our background is, what color our skin is, what we believe in or don’t for the matter, what our sexual orientation is, or anything else that could divide us, WE ARE AMERICANS FIRST! Let that sink in and let us find our way back to being a country that’s united.

Though Yesterday Is Gone, We Still Remember….

its ok

When someone enters your life and becomes a huge part of your heart, they never truly leave. Losing a loved one isn’t something one ever truly gets over. A part of your heart always aches for them. It’s okay to grieve and at your own pace. Never let someone tell you it’s been too long, to just get over it. Do definitely keep on living for it is the best way to honor their memory, but remember that it’s okay to miss them, to hurt over their absence. I do not only speak of death, but also when a friendship or relationship falls apart and you go your separate ways. Losing someone in any way after they have meant so much to you is hurtful. I have lost so many to death, but I have also loved and then watched/help the relationship fall apart, made wonderful friends and then had those friendships dissipate, and have even had family ties broken over harsh words and difficult times. As each hole in my heart was created, I knew I’d never be the same again. At times I have even wondered, how exactly does one pick up the pieces and move on? How can life ever be the same again? Well, I have found that life can’t be the same as it was, but it’s not over. I still have plenty of reasons to live, to move forward, to smile, to enjoy life. But I won’t pretend that I don’t think of the past now and then, that I don’t grieve over those I have lost, that I am suddenly over the grief I have felt. I won’t let anyone diminish that, though nor will I let that grief take my life away. I want to cherish the time I have while it’s mine to work with. Just don’t judge me if tears fall when I look at pictures of those who were once a vital part of my life and remember, don’t let anyone do that to you. Our pasts may be over, but they do shape us into who we become. And yes, as I always say….just don’t stay in yesterday land for too long, remember where you are and that today is a pretty good place to be.

Goodbye To You

moving_on

Goodbye to you

To the girl I once knew

While a part of you will always be within me

It is time for me to evolve & set you free

I’ve not yet met who I’ll become

And while I’ll never forget where I come from

I know it’s time for me to move on

So that I can write the next verse in my life’s song

A new chapter….

Life has been busy lately and it’s only about to get busier! I just got offered a job as a receptionist at a welding company. My friend gave me the idea to apply there, so glad she did! I start on Monday and I am so excited. Unlike my last few jobs, this one isn’t a temp job, it’s a direct hire from the beginning. This makes me beyond happy because I can caught up on bills, help Doug, do more for my son, and well then I am not beside myself trying to keep myself busy. I like to be busy, to be productive. One day shy of five weeks is all I was unemployed for, this is the shortest amount of time in between jobs and I am happy about that because I feel like less of a burden to those around me. I am so blessed to have had such an amazing and supportive boyfriend and some terrific friends, so very appreciative of all they have done for me while I was unemployed. When one hits what they feel is the bottom and it’s so dark, you find out who is truly there for you. God shone his light, reminded me often there’d be better days and until then, there’d be people to help me regain my footing once more, one day at a time. Thanks again to all those who never gave up on me and who have been there through it all, not just there when it was convenient.

My new job won’t be the only thing keeping me busy. I have a lot to do in the next several weeks. I have a family reunion, Brewer games, weddings, my kiddo’s football games, and so on to attend. I am excited for the many wonderful things I get to be a part of. My life is so full. I may not be wealthy when it comes to my bank account, but I most certainly am when it comes to the amount of love I am given and the love I am able to give unto others. I want to work, to pay bills, to do fun things, and so on…but without the love of my family and friends, my life would be empty and no amount of money and possessions could fill that void. I am excited to begin the newest chapter in my life and so grateful to have many wonderful people to share in it with.

It’s been a year already?

I joined WordPress a year ago, really? Time sure does fly! Thanks again to my friend Courtney who encouraged me to join. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this community! Thank you once again, guys and dolls, for reading my blog! Thank you for the support you have shown me and thank you for your wisdom, advice, new perspectives, friendship, and love…offered both on my blog and within reading yours as well!

A lot has changed in a year! Some bad things have happened, but through all of that, I have grown stronger as a person, as a Christian, as a friend, and so on. I have also learned who my real friends are and together, we have seen one another through the hard times. Many good things have happened as well and those things have served to keep me humble, optimistic even in the darkest of times, and reminding me of how very blessed I am.

A life devoid of the things that brings one joy isn’t truly living, it’s merely existing. Never deny oneself joy, happiness, or peace. Also never depend on another to give you those things. To have joy with others is a plus and an amazing thing, but one needs to have that within themselves first and always.

Life really is what one makes of it, the choice of what yours will become is up to you. Circumstances don’t define us, what we do, and how we get through them does. I choose to overcome the dark times, shine a light and make it through. I choose to hold my head up high and work for the good things in life, not just daydream about them. I refuse to let success make me arrogant. While I have earned things in life, I choose not flaunt them. I instead hope to encourage others and show them how to achieve their goals as well. I am so far from perfect, but I do the best with what I have, with who I am, and continue to work on becoming a better person than I was the day before. I hope my blog reflects even a glimmer of who I am and that it inspires even one of you, as what many of you have had to say continues to inspire me. Thank you for a great year and here’s to another amazing one ahead!

A message to the past

Dear Past,

I am writing this letter to tell you it’s over. I can’t spend every day with you anymore. The truth is, I have outgrown you. Now and then, we have had our good times. You have made me smile and laugh when pleasant memories enter in. So, I can’t say this is an easy thing for me to do. The truth is though, there have been more bad times than good with you. Often times, it’s the harsh memories you choose to share with me and I am done living that way. I can’t live within yesterday. I regret to inform you that I have found someone better for me. The present treats me with me with more respect, values me, and doesn’t hold my former mistakes against me. It has shown me that there is so much life left to live and has given me such hope that any tomorrows I am given will be brighter and full of so much love and laughter. I will miss you now and then, but I know that it is for the best that we part ways. Thank you for everything, for every lesson you taught me, for the good times, and for making me who I am today. I am sure I will look at pictures now and then, but only to remember the good times. Your hold over me is done, no longer can you hold me back or hold me down. Our time together has certainly been one heck of a journey, but it’s end has come. Every end is bittersweet, but sometimes you just have to let go so you can embrace what is to come. Thank you again! Maybe when we see one another again, the bitterness will be gone and we can be friends. If not, well, I will still carry the good memories with me always.

Sincerely,

The new me

Consumed by thoughts, as usual. ;)

Thoughts at the moment:

If you don’t like yourself, how can you expect others to like you?

We are often our worst critics.

It is often easier to give advice than to take it.

Actions really do speak louder than words.

Don’t like something about your life, change it, don’t expect others to do it for you.

Dreams can come true, but that all depends on you because you need to work for what you want in life.

We’re not promised tomorrow, so why spend so much time worrying about it? (easier said than done, I know.)

The past is the past, leave it there. Learn your lessons from it and move on.

You’re the only one who give yourself peace.

Love is stronger than hate, it always wins in the end.

We’re growing, changing, learning, and evolving till the day we die, so I suppose it’s always going to be safe to say, “I’m not where I was, but nor am I where am meant to be.”

Mistakes are a part of life, don’t let fear of failure ever hold you back.

Embrace each mistake and use it as your next chance to grow.

Be old enough to know better, be wise, but be young enough to find the joy in life.

Your life is ruined only if you let it be.

God will only bring you to it if He’s going to bring you through it.

The power of laughter knows no limitations.

A good cry can cleanse the soul.

Don’t let hurt make you skeptical.

A child or an animal will show you your true worth.

No amount of make-up, surgery, or bling will ever be able to hide an ugly soul.

You were born an original, don’t become a copy.

Let your life leave an echo of laughter and love for an eternity.

So many judge and forget they live in a house made of glass.

I will fight for what I love and love what I fight for.

Don’t mistake my kindness as weakness.

I’m tougher than you think, smarter too.

Cherish those you love while they’re here, because tomorrow isn’t promised to any of us.

A genuine smile can change someone’s day.

Sometimes it’s nice to hear that when you have to do something difficult, you’re doing the right thing.

Sometimes it’s nice to hear that someone is proud of you, so don’t hesitate to be someone who encourages another.

Life is too short to hold onto grudges.

Find a reason to smile every single day, no matter how tough it might be.

There may never be a right time to do or say something, so sometimes you just have to go for it because you might not get another chance.

Oh and hey, everyone reading this….I love you.
