The Small Things In Life….

Image

Life is often remembered by milestones such as one’s birth, baptism, big birthdays, graduations, engagements, marriages, having their own children, grandchildren, and of course one’s death. We put so much consideration into the “big” events that sometimes we forget about the “small” things.

I want to celebrate all of life’s joys, from the big to the small. Every hug, smile, laugh, song I sing, good meal, good book I read, snuggle time with my son, holding hands with the man I love, watching my pets sleep, and so much more are so important and deserve their own recognition.

Called to Love

Image

On this day, we celebrate the wonderful thing called love

To start, I want to thank the good Lord above

For all the adoration & compassion He gives each day

And for how He blesses me each day more than I can say

This day isn’t just for lovers, but for all who are bonded together

For those who don’t just share in the joy, but who stand side by side in all kinds of weather

A day to celebrate love, commitment, friendship, & joy is such a blessed thing

Though it should be done throughout the year, to remember the blessings each day brings

We are all called to love each & every single day of our lives

From our friends & neighbors to our husbands & wives

Go out & celebrate the love you feel in your hearts today

But don’t forget to do that every single day in your own special way

Celebrate Life Now

Celebrate Life

I was listening to K-Love yesterday and a listener called in and told them about how they celebrated the life of someone they love BEFORE they died. The lady that called in talked to us about her mother who had terminal cancer and knew she didn’t have long. She’d heard the idea on K-Love and decided it was something that she wanted to do for her mother. So, she planned out the event to take place on her mother’s birthday. She wasn’t sure how it would turn out, but she knew it was something she wanted to do, no matter how many people showed up. They expected maybe 15 people to show up, but 65 people attended and it was such an amazing and positive experience for everyone. Her mother was able to be surrounded by people who loved her, who celebrated her life and all she’d done. Since then, her mother did pass away and I can imagine it’s been hard for her and her family. But, she said that doing this for her mother is something she’s so glad she did. Her mother got to know just how important she was, how much she was loved while she was still here.

I really liked hearing that story, moved me quite a bit. I know there are many times when doing something like this isn’t possible, but then, who says we should wait till someone we love is dying to celebrate their life? I try throughout my life to show those I love how much I appreciate, respect, and love them. Though, when someone we know is dying, I think it especially a good idea to throw a celebration of their life. Why not give them something to remember in the days they have left that will touch their heart? Life is precious and all too fleeting. We should make the most of it and part of that is showing those we adore how much they mean to us, how important they are. I wanted to share this story and idea with all of you. Perhaps even one of you will be touched by this, perhaps even one of you will take something from it and then share your own story of celebration, life, and love with others so that your story will then inspire others to do the same. All it takes is one person and the willingness to share their story to ignite the flame.

Our Song

Image

Many couples have a song

One that they feel describes their relationship

We never bothered to find one that suits us

Upon reflecting on that now

I realize there isn’t one yet made

There are countless love songs

Many that are beautifully written

But none that we both relate to

One that we both feel describes what we have

Perhaps then we must create our own

What we share is so wondrous

It’s beyond words

I shall try though to convey our story

Show the world our love

May it forever shine brightly in these verses

For years, I dreamed of my own Cinderella story

Finding my prince and riding away into the sunset

Living happily ever after in a perfect animated world

Though in those stories

You only get to the beginning of their journey

What happens to the prince and princess years later?

What does their love overcome?

I always wanted to know more

Because it’s about more than falling in love

It’s about staying there too

Upon meeting you, it wasn’t love at first sight

It took time before even our friendship would bloom

Getting to know you though was quite the journey

One I don’t feel will ever really end

In fact, I feel it’s only just begun

Over time, respect was earned

As our friendship grew

Other feelings began to surface

Though we both hesitated to act

Each had our own reservations

Many saw what we did not

The potential for something beautiful and true

Between me and you

Eventually we both saw it for ourselves

And in time we decided to give “us” a try

Like turned to love

No longer written on the pages of a fairy-tale

It became something real

Something enduring, something meant to last

Built upon a solid foundation of friendship

You’re my best friend and I am yours

Walking the winding roads together

Weathering life’s storms

Loss, grief, sorrow, hardships

Hand in hand, we’ve seen one another through

Laughter, joy, celebration, and hope

Growing stronger

Both as individuals and as a pair

Looking at where we are now

I don’t mind the road I had to take to get here

Our song isn’t your traditional love song

But it is as beautiful as any other

One to be listened to over and over

May all who hear it know where we’ve been

Where we are and where we will be

I love you, Doug.

Finding joy in tough times is important…

Image

There are many reasons for us to be upset, discouraged, angry, and just downright unhappy. When we give into those feelings though and let them dominate, evil wins. Throughout life, bad things happen, but it is key to somehow find reasons to be happy. Finding joy in tough times is important.

The attack on Boston is one of many throughout the land I call home. It’s disheartening and hard to comprehend such acts of violence, of hate. We can’t lose hope though, can’t lose faith in humanity. There is so much hardship, crime, and troubling times across the globe, true. However, there is also a lot of people helping one another, many acts of kindness, healing, joy, hope, and love that can be found throughout as well. I truly believe that love is more powerful and in the end, it will win. I can’t let paranoia and insecurities win over and I can’t let hard times make me skeptical and wary to trust or to love.

Today marks six months since my boyfriend and I got together. I choose today to celebrate kindness and love. In six months time, his mother died, my grandma had a stroke and was also diagnosed with Dementia, he’s had issues at work, and I am still trying to find a steady job. So much turmoil has presented itself, but we have gotten through it because we love God, one another, and also have the support of family and friends. We have a solid relationship because of that love and also because of trust, loyalty, respect, compromise, and communication. The bond we share is strong and it’s helped us to get through so much. I say let’s celebrate love, kindness, and life because it makes it so much easier to deal with the bad that surrounds us.

So today, I say hug the loved ones around you, laugh, smile, enjoy nature, enjoy family, enjoy friends, enjoy life! Sing, dance, write, paint, sculpt, take a hike, go for a walk, go for a leisurely drive, have a picnic, build a blanket fort with your kids, watch a movie and cuddle, read a good book, cook a good meal, go see a play, watch a baseball game, play a board game….whatever it is you do today, make the most of it, and enjoy the time you’re given. Now is all we’re promised, so live in the moment. We don’t live in the past, it’s done and over with. We don’t live in tomorrow, we’re not promised it will come. But today, today we are here, so drink up each moment and make them count. God bless and much love to you all.

Brangien Illuminated

I am Brangien [Brangaine] of Weisefort, Ireland, lady-in-waiting to my cousin Isolde, who became promised to King Marc of Cornwall. His nephew Tristan escorted us to England by ship. But Tristan and Isolde fell in love at sea. As ye may know, or will find out, they cite the philter they drank as the cause, over which I was supposed to keep vigil. I would like to share my perspective of how I have created good in the world through my herbs and observations. There is much to tell, including how I have adopted this odd language. In good time. My life is in God’s hands. –Inspired by the modern French translations of the Tristan and Isolde texts
