Adjust Your Sails

151996556143801819_cxs4ag4z_c

After all the posts I’ve seen today where people are putting themselves down, feeling not good enough, feeling ugly, and just not doing well, I feel compelled to say this….

God doesn’t make ugly. He doesn’t make mistakes. He made you. You are not ugly. You are not a mistake. You are worthy of love. You are meant for great things. You are in fact beautiful. You are wonderful.

Today might be bad for you. Maybe this whole year has been hard so far. But. You are not the bad things happening. You are meant to rise above. It may take time. You may hurt for awhile. That’s awful, if that’s the case, but sometimes we have those times when things are hard. This WILL pass though. You can get through. You are NOT alone. You are NOT your past, mistakes, grief, hard times, or doubts. You are more than any illness or label. You are someone of value that is meant to do and be great things. Keep believing that, each day that you can and when you find you can’t, I can remind you.

Let’s adjust those sails, ladies and gents. These storms aren’t meant to drown us, even though sometimes it may feel that way. Sometimes we fall. Sometimes the waves threaten to overtake us and we’re gasping for air. Sometimes we lose battles with depression and other health issues. Sometimes our circumstances are bad. At the end of it, we find that we outlast the storm. The best part is, we don’t need to go it alone. 🙂

Inner Beauty & the Beast

beauty-is-not-about-looks-make-up-or-clothes-true-beauty-comes-from-being-yourself-quote-1

Today’s topic is about being able to see beauty more in someone’s character than in their outward appearance. There is nothing wrong with admiring one’s outward beauty, but so many times, people are overlooked because they’re not as “fetching” as others. It’s more than that, often times, too. Some can be outright cruel to those they don’t find beautiful.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, it’s true. This applies to both inner and outer beauty. What boggles my mind though is why it is seemingly more difficult to appreciate the inner beauties and strengths. As I mentioned before, there’s nothing wrong with admiring someone who is outwardly attractive to us, but shouldn’t we do much more to admire what lies within as well?

I have seen many memes over the years that say things along the lines of, “It doesn’t matter how pretty you are on the outside if you have an ugly heart.” How true those words really are! I have met many people that I find pleasing to look at, but not to talk to or to know. Just because one is lovely to look at doesn’t mean they are equally pleasing to befriend. And just because one is plain, average, or maybe ugly in our eyes doesn’t mean they’re ugly within either!!!! That old saying, “You can’t judge a book by its cover.” should carry more weight.

Yet, first impressions do hold much sway over us and what are the first things we notice when we meet someone? We notice how they look and how they carry themselves. Oh but were I like Sherlock Holmes, able to detect so much from seeing so little and so quickly too! We’re all guilty of looking at someone and coming up with conclusions without really knowing someone, but often, we don’t know as much as we think we do. There is so much more to someone than what we see in a single encounter or even a few meetings.

Were we to delve more into one than how they dressed, their hair, whether they slouch or stand up straight, or even their mood that particular moment. Sometimes we get or give the worst and then depart with unpleasant thoughts about one another. We, as humans, are both simple and complex beings. Why are we so quick to judge? Why are we unable to see the beauty within someone simply because we don’t find them appealing to look at? When we have one bad experience, why does it leave such a bad taste in our mouths that we don’t want to give someone another chance? Maybe they just had a bad day and acted too rashly, but perhaps are really an amazing person. Haven’t we all taken our bad days out on someone?

There is so much beauty surrounding us and sure, I mean nature, but I also mean people. If we were to open our minds, expand our horizons, and be more willing to see the beauty where perhaps we once didn’t, what a grand place this might really be. That lady over there who is a little too heavy for your tastes might have the most beautiful voice you ever heard or maybe if you looked closer, you’d find her smile to be stunning. The guy you think is nothing more than a lazy hippie may actually be brilliant and have the softest heart you’ve ever encountered. The black girl you don’t want to notice because of her color may be seen as gorgeous if you’d see beyond your prejudice. The man who has been losing his hair and not dress so sharply might have the kindest laugh and sweetest demeanor. Can we not try to see more in what we see? Can we find the beauty within ones we normally might not at first glance? May we look again? Might we stop being the beasts we sometimes are and show the beauty too that we have to offer?

Thank you

On this the day before Thanksgiving, I want to give thanks for the blessings in my life, including all of you…my WordPress family. I have so much to be thankful for. I listed something every single day since November 1st on my Facebook account. I found the closer I got to Thanksgiving, the harder it got for me to choose something because I realize now more than ever how very blessed I am, how beautiful my life is, even in its darkest moments.

I am thankful for God and His goodness, forgiveness, and grace. I am thankful for all He does for me, for how many times He’s saved me both physically and mentally. I am thankful for the many family and friends that I have had and currently have in my life. I am thankful for the many ways my life has been enriched and blessed because of them. I am thankful for the joy they bring me, the lessons they teach me, the ways they inspire me, the encouragement they give, the push and drive they instill in me, & most of all the laughter and love. I am thankful for most of all for my son. He has taught me more about unconditional love than I thought I’d ever know. He is a light in my life that I thank God for every single day. I am thankful for my amazing boyfriend, for the rock he’s been, for the love he gives me, for getting to know me and accepting me as is, for all he does, and for all he is. I am thankful for the joy my pets have brought to my life. My cats have all been so loyal, friendly, and loving. They’ve been more than just pets; they’ve been family.

The relationships in my life are most cherished indeed. I try so hard not to take anyone I love for granted. I want everyone I love to know how special they are to me for as long as I have the chance to do so. Life is fleeting and none of us knows how long we have here. I want to make sure I don’t waste what time I have. Not worrying or stressing out isn’t something I can stop outright, but I have been getting better at focusing more on the good in my life and there is a lot of that. 🙂

Besides the people and animals in my life, there is so much more to be thankful for. I have a job and even though my hours were cut, at least I have an income. I like what I do and am happy for the most part with where I work. Being able to pay bills and do things like provide for my son is very satisfying. Giving my son a good birthday a couple weeks back meant a lot to me. I live in a nice house in a decent neighborhood. It is a very good feeling for both Doug and I. I have a car that works, gets me to where I need to go, and looks nice too. I have enough clothes to wear, food to eat, books to read, music to listen to, games and puzzles to challenge me and that also allows my family and I many fun things to do together, and so on. I have my camera to make memories with and help others do the same. I have my voice…allowing me to speak and to sing. I have bad eyesight, but with the aid of glasses…I can do most things. I am thankful for technology that allows people like me to have a better quality of life. I have great hearing which allows me to enjoy music, the sound of my son’s laughter, and so much more. I have my wit, intelligence, and compassionate nature. God gave me so many talents and I am thankful for each one. Instead of complaining about what I can’t do, I focus more on what I can and also working together with others. When we combine our talents, we find we can do so much more than we could do alone. Seriously, when I really think about it, my life is really beautiful. There are bumps in the road, bad things happen, and sometimes my mood isn’t all that great….but I look at the bad now and see it all as lessons to learn and also it helps me appreciate the good in my life that much more.

Like I said in the beginning, I am thankful to all of you who read my blog. Some have only run across one post and decided they liked it and I never heard from them again and some are avid readers. No matter how many times you read my words, listen to a video I post, or look at a picture I share doesn’t matter in the end. Any and all support is very much appreciated. Thank for each view, like, comment, and re-blog. I have said it before, I will say it now, and will undoubtedly say it again….thank you for inspiring me and letting me inspire you. I like reading your blogs. I don’t always have something to say, though when I do, I will. 😉 Do you realize that many of your posts have influenced mine? You guys and dolls are great! And then telling me many times that I inspire you is so humbling. I had no idea I’d touch so many hearts with my blog. It’s an amazing feeling. I am beyond thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this and for each of you that I have interacted with. I love ya guys and dolls, a lot. 🙂

I hope that those of you celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow will have an amazing day, filled with love….no matter who you spend it with. May it be filled with joy and may you make wonderful memories to last you a lifetime. Enjoy your family, friends, and of course the food too. 🙂 I know there are those across the world that don’t celebrate this day, so for you I just wish you a safe and happy day, whatever you do and whomever you spend your day with. Whether tomorrow is Thanksgiving to you or just another day, perhaps still take a moment to be thankful for your many blessings. Well, I am out of here for a few days…got a lot going on, take care and much love to all of you. Again, thank you for your support. YOU ALL ROCK! ❤

Ivory Beauty

Image

Looking out my window on this cold wintry night

I see our quiet little street covered in a sea of white

So pure is its frozen beauty

Come quickly, tell me what do you see?

The only movement is the wind blowing in the trees

And my how beautiful they are covered in ivory

While the road remains still & silent

I feel at ease and for once not so defiant

For you see, generally when this weather comes

Depression hits and the more restless I become

Yearning for the world to be warm, beautiful, & green

But looking outside right now, I find there’s still beauty to be seen

Life isn’t always beautiful, in fact, sometimes it’s downright ugly. While we can’t always control what happens to us or around us, we can control how we react and that in turn determines a lot of what follows. Life can be a wondrous journey, yes with bumps and bruises along the way, but still beautiful overall if we allow it to be. I choose personally to try to focus on the positive more than dwell upon the negative so that I may truly enjoy my life. I say try because there will be moments when it’s hard to be optimistic, but in the end, I am able to find the good. I hope it may be so for you all as well. It’s up to you, so how will you choose? 🙂

A beautiful day in so many ways….

Today marks seven months together for Doug and I. I find myself more in love with him every single day. We have been through so much in seven months. He lost his mother, my grandma had a stroke and was also diagnosed with Dementia, he’s had issues with work, I am still looking for work, various family and friends issues, my mood swings, etc….but we have found it easier to get through all of that knowing we’re not alone and any problem one of us faces, we decided it’s not just their problem…it’s ours and we will band together as friends and as a couple and see one another through everything.

We take our next step in our relationship next week. He closes on the house he’s buying on May 23rd, which is my mom’s birthday. 🙂 We’re moving in together. It’s scary and exciting at the same time. While we practically live together now, we know it will be different actually living underneath the same roof, but we’re ready. One more week and then everything changes! I move out, my uncle moves back in, but I am still going to be checking on my grandma and taking care of the house until she goes into an assisted living place. This will be huge for Doug, owning a house. He’s a little nervous, but mostly excited, well, we both are. I can hardly wait to see what lies ahead for us….

It’s a beautiful day here! It’s sunny and warm, no chance of rain! So, I think I am going to go make the most of it in a few moments before I have to go do some work for Doug’s dad. What a blessing he’s been, his whole family really. Later, he will grill out for Doug, himself, & I. It’s going to be a lovely evening!!! The only way this day could get any better is if my friend’s bar is able to open tonight, making the venture for he, his mom, and everyone connected to this a reality. I am excited for this as well! Oh and, if I could just get a job offer too. 😉 But either way, it is a good day, so now it’s time to go make the best of it…hope you’re all able to do the same!
