What’s in a Name?

a186f5fca0a18c195ff3db8ac969ce2c

How did you come up with your children’s names? I’m curious to know! My son’s first name is a biblical name that means, Remembered by the Lord and I thought would be encouraging throughout his life and I also love the name, just the sound of saying it makes me smile. His middle name is also biblical, but I chose it simply because I like it. Zachariah Matthias suits him, I think. πŸ™‚ Claralynn is a combination of two names. Clara was my grandma’s name, my dad’s mom. She passed away last September. She was a light for many and not just in our family, but in the community and at church as well. I didn’t know her well, but others told me about her through the years. Lynn was Doug’s mom’s middle name. I never met her, as she passed away a month after we’d started dating and I hadn’t met anyone in his family yet. But, I’ve heard so much about her and just by knowing my husband, his sisters, her siblings, her parents, and Phil, I can really see how wonderful she was, how she’d touched so many people. I wanted to honor both of these incredible women. Her middle name is Marie and that is both my mother’s and mine as well. I wanted to give her a piece of both of us as well. So again, what inspired your children’s names? β™‘ And hey, pet parents, feel free to chime in also. They’re your kids too! Onyx came to me when I was in the pet store. Black as Midnight, but I wanted his name to be a bit more unique, just as I did for my son and daughter. β™‘

  1. I don’t have kids, so I can’t answer that question. But I’m pretty sure nothing special went into my name except making it as hard to spell as possible! (Jo Robin is just my pen name) πŸ˜€

    • I hear you there! To me, my name is easy to spell, but so many have gotten it wrong. A lot of people have misspelled my son’s as well. I used to get so mad when they got my name wrong, not just the spelling, but my name all together. I’ve been called Melissa, Christy, Krista, Kristen, etc. As much as I hated my name growing up, I wanted people to get it right. And Zach is Zachariah, not Zachary. There’s nothing wrong with Zachary and to be fair, it’s an honest mistake, but it used to irritate me to no end, that and spelling it Zack. I’m learning to not get so worked up, I mean it’s trivial compared to what goes on around us daily. Sorry for the tangent, this tends to happen a lot. πŸ˜‰

I don’t know your real name and you don’t have to share it if you’re uncomfortable doing so. But, maybe ask and maybe you’d be surprised at how you got your name? β™‘

  3. I named my daughter Nicole, which is Greek for Victorious People. She is nineteen now, and certainly victorious. I am in awe of her every day. She is strong, wise beyond her years, and so, so kind. Coincidentally, she is an avid reader of anything Greek.
