I Will Never Ask You To Change

Wise words, had to share! 🙂 Sometimes I struggle with remembering my happiness is not anyone else’s hands but my own and that if we want others to accept us as we are, we must do the same for them.

Inspiration With Explanation

My happiness is based on my behavior… not yours.

If someone isn’t behaving the way that I want them to, I have two choices…

1) Take them as they are.

2) Move on… peacefully.

Option 3… where I push & prod & manipulate & demand that people change & see things my way… is a terrible idea & will fail 100% of the time.

Fear causes me to act this way… & fear is the destroyer of relationships.

The goal for today, get over my fears & remember that only the willing can change!

Have a great day everybody!

Letting Go

74722_227044674080233_109568670_n

On the defensive, you retreat
Trying to shield yourself from harm
So high and thick is the wall you have built
Refusing to allow anyone to gain entrance
Yet you’re more vulnerable than ever

You hold a weapon to defend yourself
A sword made from angry and hateful words
They slice through your enemy like butter
Feeling vindicated for the suffering they put you through
And yet still peace doesn’t find you

Confused, surely once you defeated them
You thought you’d be happy, safe, & free
Instead you find yourself more hurt than before
Will it ever really end, you wonder
Will I ever really be alright?

The saying goes, an eye for an eye
One doesn’t just let people walk all over them
You have to fight fire with fire, right?
Let them feel the pain that they caused me!
Surely then I will win and this will all end!

Though now you truly see the damage that’s been done
And among the battles scattered ashes, no one has won
Iron fists of hatred tore you all down
The wall you built is in ruins beneath you
Tell me, was it worth it?

It may seem easier to strike back
To avenge your broken heart
And let bitterness overtake you
Than to let go of the pain and to forgive
But in the end, tell me which one brings peace?

Staring at my reflection in the mirror
I ask that question again
And tell myself, “It’s time to let go.”
I open the doors within my mind
And try to make some sense of what’s inside

As pain and hatred make their way to the door
They tell me they’d really like to stay
But I tell them they’ve worn out their welcome
The time for healing has come
I’m done feeling so worn out, so very tired

As each painful memory begins to heal
A scar forms, but they don’t hurt
They remind me of where I have been
And of who I used to be
But they no longer hold power over me

I’ll never forget what has happened
And nor will I ever forget who I was
But only because I want to become someone better
Each and every single day, that is my desire
To be a better me than I was the day before

Each day, I feel a little freer
My soul soars with the eagles up high
On the wings of the most beautiful butterfly
Hope gives me courage to try
And love gives me the strength to fly

Merry Christmas, Soldiers!

I didn’t notice there was a deadline until now, but if you act now….perhaps you can get out your card in time! But fret not, even if you can’t….there are multiple groups that send soldiers cards and letters throughout the year, as well as put together care packages and other such acts of kindness. One is called Soldiers’ Angels, if you want to get involved, look them up! So many men and women can’t be with their families during a time when they want to be the most, over the holidays. So, let us brighten their days by letting them know we are thankful for what they do and honor their courage and sacrifice. Because of their sacrifices, we’re able to be with our families and I want them to know how much I appreciate that!

Giving is NOT seasonal, at least not for me.

Material things are nice to have, can’t really say that I don’t enjoy getting or giving them. But there are things worth more to me than my computer, music collection, movie collection, clothes, shoes, and the like. Those things that matter most to me can’t be found at stores and/or purchased with money.

Time, effort, friendship, and love can be given to others without having to spend a dime. One could offer to help an elderly neighbor by shoveling their snow or raking their leaves. We could also volunteer our time as tutors, hosts/hostesses or perhaps servers at a local soup kitchen, and so on. There are other ways that we can give that doesn’t cost much, just some paper, an envelope, and a stamp by writing to soldiers who are far from home and just want a way to connect to the outside world. A friend might be having a rough time emotionally and we could lend them our time and be there to listen. There are countless ways we can help and no matter your budget, you can find a way to give.

So many of us just got done thanking those around us for all we have. Now that December is upon us, people are focusing on giving. Well, some are focusing on getting too, but I know a great deal of us are consumed with Christmas shopping, decorating, cooking, and traveling. I want to take some time away from all of that to remind myself that Christmas is truly about giving, but more of our hearts than our wallets. I want to spend this month offering my time and talents to those around me. I will extend this offer to each of you at WordPress. If I could write you a poem, whether it be to cheer you up or perhaps for a special occasion…or perhaps you just need someone to talk to, would like someone to get a Christmas card from, etc….do let me know. I want those around me to know how much I love them and not necessarily based on how much I spend on them either. I want the love in my heart to shine brightly. No matter your faith, no matter what this season means to you….I want you to know how much you all mean to me. So I am reaching out my hand, as it were, in friendship. If there is anything I can do, let me know. And, so you know, this is not just for December. I want those I cherish to know I am here year round. Giving is not seasonal, at least not for me….and nor should it be. ❤
