Side By Side & Heart to Heart

537363_509780646397_447361657_n

Oh might I just say that I love everything about you

Especially your heart that’s so giving, loyal, & true

I can say that I’ve seen you at your worst & at your very best

But even in your darkest hour, being loved by you leaves me feeling so blessed

And you love me as I am, never asking me to forsake my mind or my heart

Because our love is built upon mutual trust & respect, we’ll not be torn apart

For daily we work together on our relationship that’s worth it to defend

One where we walk side by side as one another’s lover and friend

In All I do, I Seek You

Closing my eyes, I seek Your beautiful face

Let all hate within me vanish without a trace

Jeremiah 29:11 tells me You have a plan for me

So please light the way so that I might see

Oh God who reigns on most high

I lift my hands up to the sky

You’ve been here for me from day one

I know through You, my battle with evil will be won

Your word gives me comfort and reminds me of the truth

I yearn for my faith in You to be like that of my youth

Let me be a beacon, reflecting Your light and love

So that in all I say and do, all may see You up above

Goodbye To You

moving_on

Goodbye to you

To the girl I once knew

While a part of you will always be within me

It is time for me to evolve & set you free

I’ve not yet met who I’ll become

And while I’ll never forget where I come from

I know it’s time for me to move on

So that I can write the next verse in my life’s song

Winter Can Be Kind Of Swell

Penguins

Through the wind and the freezing rain

It becomes increasingly difficult to ignore the pain

My knees are crying out to me

It would be best for us to rest, can you not see?

Tis the season when Bronchitis stalks me

I beg with all my might for it to flee

But like a stubborn child unwilling to submit

It decides it’s going to be something of a twit

Soon the snow will be here for a long unwanted stay

Though I ask it politely to leave, it won’t go away

Get out the shovels, coats, hats, gloves, boots, & snowbrushes too

Make way for slick roads, icy sidewalks, cold days, and say hello to the flu

Oh but it’s not as bad as I make it seem

See how upon the trees the snow gleams?

There’s sledding, skating, skiing, snowmobiling, and forts to build as well

Sometimes I admit, I suppose winter can be kind of swell

Reading a book all curled up under my favorite fuzzy blanket

And watching the Packers play on our awesome television set

Hot meals, hot cocoa, a warm fire, Christmas, and some cuddling too

It’s not so bad when I remember I get to spend it with you

Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address

TalesAlongTheWay

300px-Lincolnatgettysburg

November 19, 2013 is the 150th anniversary of the two minute speech of President Abraham Lincoln. The occasion was the dedication of part of the Gettysburg Battlefield as a National Cemetery.  The battle at Gettysburg had happened 4 months before in July 1863.   Mr. Edward Everett was the  featured speaker that day because he was the most polished and profound orator in the country.  He spoke for 2 hours, and by all accounts gave a thorough speech .  Then Mr. Lincoln rose to speak and did  so for a mere two minutes. He spoke to the heart of the matter to honor the fallen Union Soldiers, to preserve the union of the United States, and to redefine the purpose of the war.  Later Mr. Everett told Mr. Lincoln that he(Lincoln)  was able to say more in two minutes than he (Everett) did in two hours.

What Are You Thankful For Today?

303539_250769498356911_633153844_n

On Facebook, I have been saying something I am thankful for each day for the entire month of November. It’s actually something I think we should do all year. I was thinking about how when a holiday rolls around, many get into the spirit, but then when it’s over, it’s back to “normal”. I wish “normal” was being thankful every single day, being in the giving spirit, wanting to help our fellow man (or woman teehee). Thanksgiving is upon us and so right now I see a lot of people focusing on that and some on Christmas too, though sadly it’s mostly on the food to buy and prepare, decorations, gifts, and so forth. Though there are also a number of people focused on the heart of those days as well. I am delighted to see a few other friends doing the same thing I am on Facebook. Sad thing is, Thanksgiving will end and the posts will stop, but why should they? Shouldn’t we find things to be thankful for everyday? Perhaps we don’t need to post about them, but at least perhaps take a moment to ourselves and say thank you for something. A thankful heart is a happier one, I think.

Religious or not, Christmas too becomes a stressful time for many because people are so consumed with having enough money to buy presents, figuring out what to get and for whom, having the house decorated, do we have the time off work requested, traveling worries, is our house ready for guests, and so on. I am of the Christian faith, so Christmas to me is largely about Christ. However, I don’t see a problem spending that time with loved ones and celebrating our love for one another as well. I think Christ compels us to do just that, that is how I honor my God. But, sometimes even I get so caught up in “what needs to be done” and lose sight of what I am really celebrating. It happens to a lot of us, sadly.

It is all too easy on Easter to get stressed about buying presents for the kids, figuring out good hiding spots, meal preparations, and so on. Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Veteran’s Day….we try to honor our country and those who have defended it….but when those days are over, again, back to “normal”. I don’t like what “normal” seems to be for our country as a whole. Individually, I can not and will not speak as to how people go about their lives. I am sure there are some very humble people who give thanks often for what they have and to those who have given them what they have. But, when I think about 9/11/2001 and how our country really came together…but then later when things had quieted down, our country went back to the way it was, I am saddened. Why does it take a national tragedy or a major holiday to trigger togetherness? Reflect on that for a moment.

Then there are days like Valentine’s Day, Sweetest Day, and the like that have people in a frenzy. We feel obligated to buy things for our loved ones and I don’t like that. What happened to showing our love for one another throughout the year? Sometimes we can be so compassionate, warm hearted, and really treat one another with respect and love. But then, there are times when we’re so selfish, cruel, and insensitive. *shakes head* I know I fall into all of the groups I complain about from time to time and that’s what’s harder for me to personally deal with. I resolve to be kinder and more often, not just when the calendar orders me to do so. I resolve to be more thankful and not take the people in my life for granted. I resolve to honor my country, my God, and my loved ones as often as possible. While I have time yet, I resolve to waste as little of it as possible. That is my wish for all I love, that you all will do the same. Let’s start right now. 🙂 I am indeed thankful for so much in my life, like for instance…all of you who read my blog and support my writing and support me as a friend. What are you thankful for today?

Social Media & the Internet In General, Is It Too Accessible?

Social Media

Growing up, such things as Tablets, Smart phones, Ipads, and the like simply didn’t exist. And having a computer was a luxury, not commonplace. We didn’t have a computer, were on too limited of a budget for things like that. I wonder if these things had never been introduced to us, how we would be living right now. That is neither here nor there at the moment. I read a post by the lovely Jessica and wanted to expand on it. Her post was about social media in general, is it a good thing or a bad thing. I really liked what she had to say and the various comments. I like a good debate now and then. 😉

So, in general, I think social media sites such as Facebook, MySpace, Google, Twitter, and the like can be a very positive thing. Being able to network your business, your talents, and so forth is great. Also, being able to keep in contact with loved ones is a major plus. Where we get into trouble is when we spend so much time on these sites that we forget to spend time offline and do other things. Sometimes I think that we never should have come up with computers, the internet, and so forth.

There are times that I feel we, myself included yes, we lose touch with the world….with ourselves, with our loved ones. “But, I can Skype with my sister in AZ!”, “An e-mail is so much quicker than sending snail mail.”, and so on. All of this is very true and most times I am glad that we have all this technology and that we can do things like send e-mails to friends & family, be more productive at work with our communication, and so on. I will admit too that I can be a bit of a social media junkie myself. I like Facebook, A LOT, more than I should probably. I have found too that a lot of it stems down from boredom. When I have a lot going on offline, I find myself with less time and desire to check in, post, and read my newsfeed. I like seeing pictures, reading updates, and knowing how my loved ones are doing. I like sharing as well, not just updates…but my poetry, short stories, and the like. WordPress too has been wonderful! I have met so many people that I’d not have otherwise met and am glad to be a part of this site.

So yes, overall I am glad we have social media sites. I just think that we need to balance out our online and offline time a bit better. So, this brings me to the original reason for my post today. Are these sites too accessible? In the beginning, we had to be on our personal computers to be on the internet, then came laptops, so you could take your computer anywhere. This comes in handy for business people and students the most, though I have loved ones who use them on the go just to check e-mail, chat, and play games as well. Next step in information technology: Ipads, Tablets, Smart phones, and the like. You don’t even have to have a computer at all now to post your latest Tweet, view your latest bank statement, chat with your friend in Spain, check the stock market, share pictures, or even write your term paper. Have we gone too far or are we just getting started? What are your view points, WordPress? Have social media sites and the internet in general become too accessible? I want to know what your thoughts are, please share!
